In the spirit of our convention theme, Facing the Future – Together, ANA brought Gordon Borrell, a nationally celebrated authority on media trends and understanding marketing and revenue opportunities available for newspapers.
And more! … local media experts presenting seminars in journalists and Twitter, political advertising, converting press releases into editorial stories, and newspaper newsletters. Plus a special guest, Assistant Chief Wessing of the Mesa Police Department, hosting a seminar on: Crime Scene Safety & Tips for Covering the Police Department.
And not least, there were the two highly anticipated Award Ceremonies: a luncheon for the Excellence in Advertising Contest winners; and new this year, a sit-down evening dinner where we’ll announce the Better Newspapers Contest winners and Newspapers of the Year.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2021 BNC and Excellence in Advertising competitions. Newspaper, Individual and Advertising entries were judged by this year’s contest partner: Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association.
The Photographer of the Year, Story of the Year and Journalist of the Year are selected by a panel from the local Associated Press West Region Bureau – a nationally and globally trusted news source.
– Eligibility for Story of the Year are all the first-place winning entries in categories 11 to 18 which automatically compete for outstanding story of the year.
– Photographer of the Year and Journalist of the Year candidates are nominated by their publisher, managing editor or editor that include a letter explaining why the candidate should be chosen. Each entry includes samples of the nominee’s work.
ANA is appreciative that the AP news organization judges our member’s work and selects the ‘Of the Year’ honorees.
